Live updates: Dem governors testify on sanctuary states amid protests over Trump's immigration raids

Three Democratic governors will appear before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday morning to address sanctuary states, a topic well-timed with protests in California and beyond over the Trump administration’s crackdown on migrants.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker face the committee at 10 a.m. EDT, in a hearing that was scheduled weeks before Los Angeles protests prompted the White House to call up California’s National Guard and deploy 700 Marines to quell the crowds.

A federal court hearing is slated for Thursday in San Francisco on President Trump’s use of the military on American soil.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom filed an emergency motion requesting the court’s intervention after Trump ordered the deployment of roughly 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines to Los Angeles following protests over his stepped-up enforcement of immigration laws.

Trump on Thursday is scheduled to sign executive orders and host the Congressional Picnic on the South Lawn.

Also on Capitol Hill: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will testify for the third consecutive day in a budget hearing. His Tuesday appearance got tense upon questioning from Republican senators.
